Benefits of Peer Review

Identify two GCU Library scholarly databases that will help you find the best research articles to support your capstone project change proposal. Discuss why these two databases are better than Google Scholar or a general Internet search. What benefit does peer review have over a regular research study/academic article? Benefits of Peer Review

Benefits of Peer Review

Two scholarly databases that can be utilized to help support my capstone project would include CINAHL complete and Pub Med. Utilizing Google Scholar may be useful to an extent but utilizing GCU library allows better control over viewing most recent information, or viewing peer reviewed data. BioMed Central also is an independent publishing house which provides information on biomedical research which is also peer-reviewed. This single source has 205 full-text journal titles. CINAHL for Alumni has more than 3,000 journals in nursing and allied health. This also gives students access to health care books, nursing dissertations, standards of practice, and full book chapters. Full-text material include more than 0 journals, legal cases, clinical innovation, critical paths, and clinical trials. PubMed has more than 30 million citations for published articles in fields like biomedicine and health. This can include articles which funded by the National Institutes of Health. Google Scholar may be a useful source of information if looking for a quick and simple answer that may not require to look into the fine details. Google Scholar may have more dated information or information that is not peer reviewed, or the information may be biased in one direction or the other. A safer direction to find information would be on sites that further advocate and specialize in one type of study.

The GCU Library scholarly databases help to ensure that research articles found are vetted and evidenced based. The source and material have been verified. A random Google search can produce information; however, the clinician needs to be careful and fully know where the information is coming from. Anyone can post an article online. The article online does not prove by itself that it is evidenced based or produced from a quality study. The two scholarly databases that will help in my research are CINAHL Complete and Cochrane Library… Benefits of Peer Review ….. Both databases are first recommended by a university, second are healthcare driven, and lastly have been proven to produced evidenced based information for healthcare practice. CINAHL stands for Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature. Nursing theories and usage of robust methods in nursing research were identified as nursing science priorities. Universities have a special responsibility to teach basic science research, develop and test theories that produce solid research that produces robust evidence.  This evidence is then gathered in a database to further health care research (Hopi & Heikkila, 2020). The Cochrane Library Guide is at the highest level of information, it provides up-to-date information on the effects of interventions in health care and evidence to support decisions taken in health care and to inform those receiving care. A systematic review is a review of a clearly formulated question that uses systematic and explicit methods to identify, select, and critically appraise relevant research, and to collect and analyze data from the studies that are included in the review (Barry University, 2022).
