Assignment 15%

The Bible speaks of “blessing” and “thankfulness”. Throughout the semester, I provided time for you to reflect on your daily blessings. Review your journal and using qualitative methodology, identify themes that best describe your experience when reflecting on your blessings. Once you have identified your themes, review the following Scriptures and identify the one that speaks to you based on your reflection of blessings/thankfulness”. If there is another Scripture that best identifies your themes you may select and write to it.  A minimum of one page.

James 1:2-4 (ESV)

2Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,  for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.  And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Deuteronomy 28:2 (NIV)

All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God:

Blessing journal

I. Introduction

In this qualitative analysis, I reflected on my daily blessings throughout the semester and identified themes that emerged from my journal. The Scriptures provided offer guidance and insight on blessings and thankfulness. Based on my reflection, I selected the following themes and Scriptures.

II. Thematic Analysis

To analyze my journal content and identify themes, I engaged in a process of open coding, which involved closely reading my journal entries and identifying recurring patterns, emotions, and experiences. Through this process, I discovered two main themes that resonated with my reflections: joy and gratitude.

III. Themes

a. Joy: My parents came to visit me from Iran to the US for one month, and their presence brought immense joy to my life. I eagerly anticipated their arrival and cherished every moment spent with them. Their visit reminded me of the importance of family and the blessings that come from nurturing those relationships. Despite any challenges or trials that arose during their visit, I found joy in their presence and the love we shared.

b. Gratitude: I am living with my boyfriend, who moved to the United States after a long-distance relationship of six years. Having him here with me has been a tremendous blessing. Additionally, I am grateful for the companionship of my dog, Candy. The love and support I receive from both my boyfriend and my furry friend fill my heart with gratitude.

IV. Scripture

The Scripture that best resonates with my reflection on blessings and thankfulness is James 1:2-4 (ESV): “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

This passage reminds me that trials and challenges should not dampen my joy but rather contribute to the development of my character and faith. It encourages me to find joy even in difficult circumstances, trusting that they serve a purpose in shaping me into a stronger and more complete person.

V. Conclusion

Reflecting on my journal entries and analyzing them thematically has deepened my understanding of blessings and thankfulness. The themes of joy and gratitude emerged as significant aspects of my experiences. The chosen Scripture, James 1:2-4, resonates with these themes, reminding me to find joy in all circumstances and allowing trials to strengthen my faith. Through this analysis, I have gained a greater appreciation for the blessings in my life and the importance of expressing gratitude.
