Unnecessary Change

Choose one of the following questions to answer for this week’s discussion board. Make sure to repost the question you selected at the top of your posting.

  1. How do you typically respond to change? Do you embrace it? Seek it out? Accept it reluctantly? Avoid it at all cost? Is this behavior like that of your friends and that of your family? Has your behavior always fit this pattern, or has the pattern changed throughout your life? If so, what life events have altered how you view and respond to change?
  2. Try to remember a situation in your own life that involved unnecessary change. Why do you think that the change was unnecessary? What types of turmoil did it cause? Were there things a change agent could have done that would have increased unfreezing in this situation?

How do you typically respond to change? Do you embrace it? Seek it out? Accept it reluctantly? Avoid it at all cost? Is this behavior like that of your friends and that of your family? Has your behavior always fit this pattern, or has the pattern changed throughout your life? If so, what life events have altered how you view and respond to change?

I’ve noticed that my response to change has evolved over the years. In my earlier years, I was more resistant to change, especially when it came to major life transitions. I would often accept change reluctantly, preferring the comfort of the familiar. However, as I’ve grown and experienced more, I’ve come to appreciate and even seek out change in certain aspects of my life.

This shift in my attitude towards change has been influenced by several factors. Firstly, I’ve realized that change can bring new opportunities and personal growth. Embracing change, especially in my career and educational pursuits, has allowed me to explore new avenues and develop new skills. Secondly, I’ve found that resisting change too much can lead to stress and anxiety, so I’ve learned to adapt more easily to reduce these negative emotions.

I’ve also noticed that my response to change can vary depending on the type of change. For small, everyday changes, I tend to embrace or at least accept them without much resistance. However, for significant life changes, such as moving to a new city or starting a new job, I still experience some initial reluctance, but I’ve become more adaptable over time.

In comparison to my friends and family, I’ve observed that we have different approaches to change. Some of my friends are more proactive in seeking change and are often early adopters of new technologies or trends. In contrast, some family members are more conservative and tend to be cautious about change. These differences in responses to change have led to interesting discussions and learning opportunities within my social circle.

In summary, my response to change has shifted from resistance to acceptance and even seeking it out as I’ve grown and experienced more in life. This change in attitude has been influenced by a combination of personal growth, the realization of the benefits of change, and my observations of how others in my life respond to change.
