Integrate your research with professional opinions and experiences. All research must be proven by in-text citations matching your reference list and formatted using 7th ed. APA.

The discussion board closes weekly on Sunday by 11:59 PM (Denver, MT). No late posts will be accepted without prior approval. Please reach out to your instructor in advance (if possible), to request an extension if you have extenuating circumstances and are unable to meet deadlines.

Step 1: Initial Main Discussion Thread

Post your Initial Main Discussion Thread no later than Wednesday night by 11:59 PM (Denver, MT). The week closes Sunday 11:59 PM (Denver, MT). If you submit your Initial Main Discussion Thread post late, a 10% penalty will be applied.

Respond to the following prompts using at least TWO reliable, evidence-based, and professional resources integrated with your personal experience. It is recommended that students do not read peer posts before submitting their initial discussions. Your Initial Main Discussion Thread should include the following:

  1. Reflect on your personal views related to nurses’ being appointed to boards, organizations or other policy forming entities.
  2. Why would a nurse want to seek an appointed position in government?
  3. How would you prepare for consideration to an appointed position?
  4. Use research and give examples of how nurses in various appointed positions could positively affect public policy.

Step 2: Peer Responses

Post your Peer Responses no later than Sunday night by 11:59 PM (Denver, MT). Peer Responses will not be accepted past Sunday in the week they are due.

Peer Responses at least 150 words each.

Read other student posts, and a minimum of at least TWO responses are required. Each Peer Response requires ONE reliable, evidence-based, and professional resource integrated with your personal experience. Peer Responses should include the following:

  1. Have you ever considered seeking a position in government?
  2. Is there a policy you have tried to change in your past or would like to see change?
  3. Use research and discuss how a nurse can initiate or support policy change?
  4. Use research integrated with your personal experience to support or debate other students’ posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the issues professionally and provide examples to support opinions.
