Week 2: Personal Morals and Ethical Responsibilities
“The fundamental values of the human services profession include respecting the dignity and welfare of all people; promoting self-determination; honoring cultural diversity; advocating for social justice; and acting with integrity, honesty, genuineness and objectivity. ”
—Preamble of the Ethical Standards for Human Service Professionals
As an HSPP, you will sometimes encounter situations where your own personal moral views may conflict with your professional ethical responsibilities and the needs to care for a service user. When you are in this situation, you may feel hard-pressed as to what is the right thing for you to do and what the service user needs. In this Discussion, you will reflect on how you would differentiate your personal moral platform from the requirements of professional ethics and organizational ethics.
